I came across the xkcd comic somewhere on the internet and think this is the most sophisticated all-purpose excuse imaginable 😉.
💽 Data: COVID mortality
My graph of the week is this wonderful creation by John Burn-Murdoch for the Financial Times. It shows the infection fatality ratio (IFR) of COVID in England. COVID is now officially less lethal than the flu in the UK, even for elderly. A crucial sidenote, however, is that the absolute number of deaths may still be higher. COVID is more transmissible than the flu.
NEW: for the first time in the pandemic, a Covid infection now carries less mortality risk than a flu infection in England, the result of widespread immunity and the emergence of a less virulent variant in Omicron.
